Job Description |
The Program in Intensive English (PIE) is looking for qualified instructors to start in the 2015-2016 academic year. Duties will include teaching up to four classes in the PIE each semester and supporting the PIE through other assigned responsibilities that could include teacher observation and curriculum development and facilitating and grading placement exams (assessment). |
Minimum Qualifications |
* MA in TESL or Applied Linguistics
* Two years of English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching experience, one year of which is in an Intensive English Program (IEP) setting |
Preferred Qualifications |
Experience in the following areas:
* 1 or more years of Teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the areas of business and/or engineering
* 1 or more years of teaching academic Reading, Writing, and Vocabulary in an Intensive English Program (IEP) or English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program
* 3 or more years teaching in an IEP or EAP program
* Experience with collaborative teaching in a post-secondary academic setting
* Experience in teacher observation, supervision, and/or training
* Development and use of assessment practices and procedures
* Experience teaching different skills at different levels
* Materials/curriculum development in areas of English for business or English for engineering
* Materials/curriculum development in Grammar, Reading/Writing, Listening/Speaking, TOEFL and/or IELTS preparation, and special or short-term programming
* Participation in professional ESL/EFL organizations
* Demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations on campus and in the community |

Salary |
$37,500 |
FLSA Status |
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked. |

Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service (http://nau.edu/Provost/Resources-Policies/).
Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU’s BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment.
If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
