Job Description

We are a literacy education company in need of a journalist writer on our marketing team. Items that need to be created include: blog posts, articles for website, emails, newsletters, press releases, and presentation proposals. Topics for the written material include strategies, intervention, how to teach reading, phonics, English as a Second Language, education grants, and dyslexia. If you are interested in any of these topics, this is a great opportunity to showcase your writing skills and become a field expert. Editing of curriculum material will be assigned as needed. Candidates should be meticulous and professional in writing and editing. Managing content for blogs and social media are also job responsibilities. Marketing writing experience is preferred. Applicant who is social media savvy is a plus.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in related field
Preferred experience in education, literacy, ESL, and/or teaching

Salt Lake Community College is looking ESL certified teacher

Salt Lake Community College is looking ESL certified teachers who can teach our Developmental Reading (RDG 0900) courses.  The majority of the students in these courses speak English as an additional language, but there may also be some native speakers of English in the classes.  The main purpose of these courses is to help students develop and improve academic reading skills.  We have two sections that are currently open.  These sections are daily from  7:00 to 7:50 a.m.   and 8:00 to 8:50 a.m. and are taught at our Taylorsville Redwood Campus.  Adjunct teachers are compensated at a rate of $580.00 per credit hour (RDG 0900 courses are 5 credit hours).  Classes begin on August 26th.  If you are interested and available to teach one or both of these courses, please send a resume with current contact information to the SLCC Reading Coordinator, Brent Green (brent.green@slcc.edu ).

Guadalupe Schools is a private non-profit which seeks to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and immigrant adults through education. The Voluntary Improvement Program (VIP) utilizes community volunteers to provide small-group instruction in English as a Second Language to low-income immigrant adults.

Position: ESL Specialist (Part-time, hourly)
VIP seeks an ESL Specialist to supervise the education of small groups of adult immigrant language learners, utilizing volunteer ESL tutors.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have Certificate in TESOL, MA Applied Linguistics / TESOL, or be currently pursuing one of these degrees.
  • Must have compassion and caring for low-income immigrant adults who are seeking to improve their lives through education.
  • Must be able to improvise on short notice and handle stressful situations with good humor.
  • Need an appreciation for volunteerism and a desire to assist volunteer tutors in reaching their fullest potential.
  • Punctuality, dependability and organization are absolute musts.
  • Must enjoy teamwork and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Experience with very low-level learners of English strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of materials development, language acquisition theory and testing / assessment are assets.
  • Some proficiency in Spanish or Vietnamese a plus.
  • Must be able to climb stairs. Some light lifting.

Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate 8-10 small groups of students and volunteer ESL tutors.
  • Plan a detailed 2-hour ESL lesson plan for each student group, twice weekly.
  • Select and/or develop appropriate materials for each group.
  • Supervise, encourage and train volunteer tutors in instructional techniques.
  • Monitor students’ progress via standardized assessment tools.
  • Complete basic administrative tasks.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Assist as needed with additional student services.
  • Additional projects and hours may be offered, depending on skills and interests.

Hours: 17 hours per week. $16 / hr. Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30-9:15 PM required.
