Call For Proposals Due August 20, 2021
Due to some unexpected circumstances, we have had to move this year’s conference online. Please join us for ITESOL fall virtual conference.
Friday Keynote: Bringing Order to Chaos: Technology-Enhanced Teaching and Learning
There are literally thousands of choices when it comes to technology tools teachers can use in their virtual and in-person classrooms to improve students’ learning experience. So, how is a teacher to choose which technology tools to use and which ones to avoid? Many teachers struggle with becoming overwhelmed and may choose to avoid technology altogether. In this session, Dr. Shewell will present strategies for evaluating and selecting appropriate technology tools and discuss how to help students be successful when learning with technology.
Saturday Interactive Keynote: Tips and Tricks for Effective Online and Blended Teaching
Despite having moved to teaching entirely online during the pandemic, many teachers still struggle with keeping students engaged and accomplishing their learning objectives in an online environment. In addition, many teachers are now returning to blended teaching environments, with some students attending virtually and others attending in person. Teaching in these environments effectively requires not only an understanding of the differences between the online environment and face-to-face teaching, but also an understanding of the potential of online learning and how to maximize students’ learning experience in online and blended settings. In this session, Dr. Shewell will introduce his Hierarchy of Online Learning Needs and discuss how students’ needs might change in an online learning setting. He will also discuss how to empower students to be successful online and blended learners and how teachers can manage the workload of teaching online and blended courses.
